The Cracker man ,in my opinion, is the best made for TV movie ever produced. You forget it is a movie and feel you are watching two people as their lives move along.
I LOVE YOU OLD MAN CRACKER, YOU ARE MY HERO AND I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU!!

About a half hour ago I happened to be fortunate enough to see the last 20 minutes or so of this wonderful film...I was immediately drawn to the heart of this beautifully told story. This is a rare gem. I nearly ache to see it in it's entirety and wish I had a copy of this in my small collection of works that I would be proud to show to family and friends.

This a superb film, deplicting the all hardships of life without all our modern conveniences, the strong loving relationship between the granddaughter and grandfather is heartfelt, so wonderful to see. It really makes you see life in a very different light, how hard and unglamorous life can be , a feeling of being stuck in a situation with now way out, being lonely and isolated with your lifelong duties day after day, year after year, look out the window and wish for something to come along, something different, something new.....What a Wonderful film! I would recommend this to everyone......

This is a beautiful film and a great telling of the short story. I recommend it for everyone, young and old.

Grew up in rural Alabama. This film reminded me of the flavor of my own childhood. The pace is right, hectic, but not hurried. I especially liked the use of music. Magnificent piece of work.

Hi Bruce and John and rest of Cracker Man crew,
Tremendous job on The Cracker Man. I gathered the family for the showing and my 9 year old said "Is this one of those documentaries?" I said no and she was pleased because it wouldn't be "boring." Anyway, they enjoyed it thoroughly, most especially loved the old man "Fire in the hole!". They kept guessing when he would pass away (kids!). The film was beautifully produced and well written. You and everyone involved should be proud of producing such an Alabama story in Alabama. Best wishes, Tom.

How disappointing that you give such little credit to the original, fantastic writer of the story, Helen Norris. Reading the credits is very misleading.

I thought "The Cracker Man" was thoughtful and insightful, and well represented family life in the rural south. The characters were interesting and believable without having to give them outrageous idiosyncrasies. It reminded me of "The Rainmaker" with Katherine Hepburn.
I would have to say that my only complaint would be that the automobiles in the show were too clean for it to be rural Alabama in 1947.

Thanks for giving us high quality entertainment! It's nice to finally see a respectable film based in the south. Moviemakers typically can't resist the old mythical stereotypes and horrifyingly inaccurate southern accents.
The film manages to convey meaningful themes without shouting them at the audience. In an age of hollow television and film drama, Cracker Man represents a refreshing alternative.

I was thoroughly pleased and touched by this beautiful piece. The production is breathtaking, and the story and pace felt just right. I found myself totally engrossed in this film, and I am looking forward to more productions of this caliber.

The film was beautiful, pure, bittersweet and wonderful. Any Hollywood director would have bloated to two hours what one hour told so well. Thanks for showing Southerners, especially Alabamians, at our best. It was marvelous.

Wonderful film, but I couldn't believe there was so little credit given to Helen Norris. I don't belittle what the screen writers did, but the original material was hers and so the first and biggest credit should indicate this.

WOW! I just happened to notice Cracker Man playing on our local PBS. I was proud of my dear friends John and Bruce. The movie is truly a touching tribute to the southern family. It is indeed refreshing being so far away from the South to see such a positive reflection of Southern families displayed in film. Values such as hard work, devotion, and determination all come to the forefront. What a delightful change from the typical ignorant, lazy southern family so often depicted in film. Kudos!
