I think there should be non denominational prayer in schools! Subliment your gods name for the one being given. I think some religeons take things way too far. I had heard on the radio one religeon doesn't think yoga should be done by christians....WHAT because you are giving thanks to the sun blah blah blah God put the sun here so thank God for the sun to warm us. Yoga although I don't do it is suppose to be very healthy. Too many people want to cause strife no matter what. That is why when peace is finally here it will be false, because only with God will things be peaceful!

i believe that our children have the right to pray at school and anywhere else they choose ... we can give out condoms at school but bibles ... come on now whats up with that

To the person who wrote on 6/20 all I am going to say is that our country was founded on GOD'S name. The second we started trying to take God's name OUT of our country is when it started falling apart. I don't believe we should have to acknowledge any other religion when it comes to prayer because USA was founded on GOD and we should pray to GOD not anybody else. Discouraging teachers and children from praying at ANY time is immoral.

To the person who left a comment on 5/4/09 I have a question for you? So, you say that if the students don't want to pray they should have to leave the room.. Is that fair? Anyone who is not christian must leave the room or sit down.. I have on idea, how about all the Christians leave the room and everyone else can say their prayers. IF YOUR GOING TO TAKE SCHOOL TIME OUT FOR CHRISTIAN PRAYER THEN YOU MUST TAKE TIME OUT ALSO, FOR EVERY OTHER RELIGION, NO MATTER HOW SMALL!!! Why should ANY student be made to feel as if their religion isn't as important as yours!!!! I believe in a moment of silence... if that is not enough, send your kids to a school that practices your religion. ie: A christian school or what have you!!

Questions regarding Prayer in SChools
1. Will the school prayer invoke the name of Christ? Such as"in Jesus name..."
2. Will Jewish and Moslem students have to pray,or listen to, Christian prayers?
3. Will non-Christian students be forced to attend School Prayers?
4. Will all students be forced to attend prayer Service?
5. What will be done to, or with, students who do not want to attend prayer services?
6.Will parents be able tell the school to excuse students from prayer sessions?
7.Who will present the prayer? teacher? student? minister? Rabbi? Priest?
8. Will a teachers attitude favoring or opposing school prayer be a hiring criterion?
9. If there are Jewish or Moslem prayers, will Christian students be required to attend?
I would like some answers

I think that there should be prayer in school. Well not really a prayer that all kids should pray to. I think we should have a moment of silence, or saying the prayer out loud, and the ones that dont beleive in that religion could step out of class or just sit in there seat, but dont participate. By having prayer in the schools, we have an opportunity to have religous rights. The only thing im asking for is prayer, if you want to, in the mornings, but the teachers, the kids, or anybody else can talk about it.

I dont think most people understand that when they say "everybody has freedom of religion" they are also stating that they have the freedom to practice it at school. Good job, you just contradicted yourself. Im not saying everyone should HAVE to pray in school, just have a moment of silence for the people who want to.

I am a devote Christian and i would just like to point out that in the bible, its says to go to a closet and pray in private....people shouldn't have to be forced to pray. Its their choice

I think people are mistaken. Independent school prayer is legal, and always will be. MANDATORY school prayer however is and should be illegal. Why should anybody be forced to pray at school when they don't want to? Answer: THEY SHOULDN\'T.

this is stupid to argue over i think that we should have prayer in school. people just need to stay out of everybodys buisness .

I am a student working on Prayer in Schools. I am a christian also. But well... in the bible it says that God gave us free will and I don't think it's right to try to force someone to pray but just because one person wants to ban the whole thing together isn't right. Right now it is uncomfortable to pray even at school. I also hear a lot of talk about students themselves getting pregnant, doing drugs, drinking, fighting. I never ever heard that before when I was younger. Even inappropriate language is increasing. I do think banning praying at school is wrong. Well I am going back to working on my essay at this topic.

I'm from Pontotoc, where the big controversy happened. My aunt was a Bible Teacher at Ingomar school for 30yrs. She lost her job when they took classes out. I never really cared one way or another about hearing a prayer over the intercom the 12yrs i went to Pontooc High. Why lisa herdahl decided it was such a MAJOR thing,i dunno. I think she just wanted to stir crap personally. Prayer never hurt anyone. Our town was better off when the word of God was being taught in our school system. Crime has risen here since she had it removed. Thanks alot lisa.

This message board thing is pissing me off so much. NOBODY who is for school prayer is thinking about the people of minority faiths. What about Atheists and Agnostics? Is that fair that they have to sit through a prayer session? Let alone PARTICIPATE? No, it\'s not. This is totally ridiculous. Maybe if you all weren\'t so self centered and thought about other non religious people you would see my point.

People. The raise in teen pregnancies, drug use, underage drinking, riots and shooting has absolutley NOTHING to do with the banning of public school prayer. Personally, I think that the media is to blame for the raise in drug abuse and underage drinking. But come on everybody, school prayer is definitley NOT going to solve these problems. It is only going to cause more drama. Because guess what? Not all of us are Christian. Some of us will feel extremley uncomfortable sitting in a class room full of people praying. I know I would. Public school prayer is crossing the line between state and religion. School is for learning. Church is for praying/practicing your religion. That is why we have churches.

I think if you want to pray in school then you have every right do but for the people that don't want to and that don't believe in god or who are a different religion then they shouldn't be forced to do something they don't want to to.
