Untitled
by Kathy Chmiel

Do you know what it is to be us?
To feel our pain?
Experience our troubles?

You say our generation is troubled
"No manners, no courtesy"
Yet we know only what we were taught
But nobody bothered to care
If we knew how to live

You say that we are innocent
Yet we see violence everywhere

You say that we are stupid
But we know how to think

You say that we have no troubles
Yet we cry more than you
You say we have no future,
But we hope, and we pray
We ponder, question, and succeed

A generatoins full of "drugs"
Yet we answer with a no when offered

You look down on us
Think you're better
More sophisticated
Better educated

You say life is easy
But we struggle everyday
To be happy
To have fun
And to just live
