Affection
by Christina Raye

Sweet sixteen in a haze of sadness life filled with distress I must confess
can't understand why no one wants to show affection
it feels like rejection
days go by without any hint of love
what have I done?
Feels like I've been shunned
the dark I try to fight for any sign of light
only blurs in my vision n I start to slur
motherly love transient always in absent
give me affection is what im askin
the look in your eyes reflect the effects of hate
unable to validate myself as a candidate for your approval
unconditional love supposedly self-explanatory
never really was their forte
all I wanted was some love for me
some affection
but always rejection
never good enough
but I kept myself up
never let them keep me down
wait for the day when jeers become cheers
give me an exception so I can receive your affection
to give me the drive I need to survive
to escape the desolate road of disregard
and find the path of utopia.
