Elegy of Deep Thoughts by Helen Trung What is this journey we call life? Why is it filled with pain and strife? Must we meander along mindlessly? In this old, repetitive course, blessed be. At the end of this journey, we meet a block From this we can't escape, or even mock Our only defence, is to attempt good health But no man can say they are able to avoid death. For many I loved, have lost this game Sorrow I feel, not disappointment nor shame, That those I loved have passed away. I live in their legacy, I would never betray. In reminiscing, it causes me to ponder What lies beyond the grand sleep, far yonder? Is it simmering summer, in the red shaded sea? Or is it oceans of blue, where stars shine merrily? I hope heaven sees the tears running down my face, As God takes a life full of beauty and grace. I hope you left the world happily, As you left me with an overwhelming misery. Is death meant for punishment or learning? Your unconditional love, my whole life spent earning. Am I supposed to be mourning and grieving? My heart can't stop breaking, upon your leaving. Is it worth the wait, after a lifetime of pain? Is there anything to anticipate, anything to gain? Is love in life used to prepare us for later? I ask, the one and only all mighty creator. Then a voice calls to me, so familiar and true. Whatever work or love you do, eventually comes back to you. Please don't leave the path to a better life, don't leave. That is all I heard, all my soul had received. So in this game we call life, don't stray. We should work hard, and even play To prepare ourselves, when the call of the bell Sentences us to all eternity, heaven or hell. |
