Ay, Buhay
by Anjel Cruz

"oh what a tangled web we weave"
leading the lives we live only to deceive
i wish i could believe in god and love and light
and the pain will subside and my heart will take flight
and the sorrow will pass, and i will move on
through heartbreak and anguish my love will stay strong
but romance and passion aren't the topic of contemplation
the search for a panacea to all problems would bring eternal elation
why do the worst things happen to the best people and the best things to
the worst?
why does luck smile upon evil while leaving the angelic cursed?
and as i stumble down the long and dusty road that you call life
i feel the blade against my throat but i dont see the knife
so god open my eyes to the true beauty of this journey
torrents of smoke sting my eyes and vision become blurry
what is my purpose in life? why am i here?
because i feel like im at the beginning but i know the end is near
the accumulation of days brings the accumulation of pain
and once im clean of sorrow the cycle begins again
first joy, then anger, and finally depression
as i get lost in my own world and in another dimension
and as i walk down this path, two sets of footprints trail me
two roads, one decision. i close my soul and choose blindly
and where the road may lead, only god himself knows
the sun for shame will not his head show
and as the seconds pass by, the darkness grows
