Deception by Erica Schoenberg When I first looked in your eyes, I saw fear. Your eyes told me a story of uncertainty and confusion. Now we are close and yet it seems as though so far apart. Secrets which we never had begin to appear. We don't discuss the meaning of the world. Instead we sit and stare and try to figure out who we are and what we are. Once a unit that was consistent in this complex world, I sit here now alone. Demanding an explanation for where we went ended. I try to open my lips and speak and yet nothing comes out. The sound of loneliness fills my heart, and tears begin to fill my eyes. Life does not seem clear of simple anymore. You, me, us, has been changed. Deception of where we once were emerges. Our friendship a lie and too unreal. Friends by force, we never experienced the world alone. Now I do. Alone am I in this world. Alone with only this poem and my pen. |
