The Wolf by Courtney Age: 14 The wolf stands Graceful and confident Proud and true Staring out at the majestic moon Raising his head in silent glory Blood matting his fur in small wounded areas Scars from a battle of survival The other carcass dead The wolf still standing Staring Lifting his snout into the air Opening his mouth And singing his beautiful song Ending, his eyes alive and glowing Piercing yellow in the darkness Walking home Alone As the first rays of sun shine through the thick forest Slowly one paw after another Slowly, so slowly Head up high Feet heavy on the dirty path He makes it And lays down Alone and proud Shuddering one last breath He closes his eyes For the last and lonely time |
