"The Give Up" by Ellen Marie Selm Age: 17 Hey vanity.... You can hear in my bones trapped beneath the wheels of fate Tears as sharp as brittle bones streaking down in sheets. I've got the best of means, Unfortunate... As stars will leave you standing naked while it's turning dark. Bend your knees, pounded, naked at my window... Then even gods will cry. All of you lost me in an endless wizened old pain, And now it's cost me everything I've made. Broadcasting right to the veins, in a color like stormy seas, As I try to capture and save the best things for my story. Bend your knees, crushed, naked at my window. Are we free like birds? Why? Even at once, among everything and more, an even amount dies. She knows she'll turn around. She'll turn and fall. But she still turns around, Turning around for sure, now you've wrapped yourself around it too far from home. ! You say you want it all to be yours, but now you've gone. Ease up on the melody, there's still a ways to go... We're taking in the sites where everyone is rescued. I swore we'd find you and bring you a memory, As ghosts exalted, random kisses and radical dreamers. Picture you standing naked at my window... Yes, even gods can cry. Bend your knee once, everything and more, then an even amount dies. |
