The Wind
by Lydia Langtree
Age: 19

The wind blows quietly
On the front veranda
I believe I smell a fire
Off in the distance
But I'm not sure
It could be the warmth of love
I could appreciate its worth

The wind blows quietly
I stand on the veranda
Letting it take my hair
Letting it breeze through my soul
And in the distance
I can sense happiness

The wind blows quietly
While I rock on the veranda
I pull my sweater tight
The wind has a certain chill
And in the distance
Sadness can be heard

The wind blows quietly
Pacing the veranda
I feel like the wind
Is filled with sorrow
And in the distance
Death stirs

The wind blows quietly
For it has the burden
Of bringing these
Events unto me
