Aspirations
by Jose A. Vadi

I wanna let my music soar above the trees,
Filling me with bliss and suburban tranquility,
I want my artwork to shine where the sun is banished,
Where shadows creep and emotions are famished,
I want to live my life at the beat of a drum,
To signify a revolution bred within the young,
I want to glorify the streams and the trout,
And create choruses where even presidential figures can shout,
I want to exist in limitless pastures with my eyes always on the prize,
Where freedom is caressed by the tears in my eyes,
I want sounds to always be fluent within the kids,
Because without them our souls become muffled dims,
I want to live a life that HAS life,
I want to progress within myself with no external strife,
Because I know that "I's" are meaningless compared to "You's",
Companionship follows even though I sing the blues,
I want to live in staccato patterns,
With rim shots bursting from this page after,
I want to stab these trees for providing me pages of reticent desires,
With words emitting from the wrists of teenage voyeuristic fires,
I want to lie in tombs of rumba-percussion coffins,
Where death is merely a chance to meet my heroes,
I want these poems to act as arms,
Reaching out to YOU while leaving this room creatively scared,
Making your head bounce bar by each bar,
I wanna stay focused without coward introductions,
Living life with my culture exempt from any assumptions,
Because I want these eyes to see more than this page,
I want to live life -
Day by fluent day.
