This program will preview a 20-minute excerpt from THE NEW AMERICANS. The series documents the experiences of several immigrants and refugees, starting in their homelands, and through their first few years in America. The excerpt to be shown focuses on Israel and Ngozi Nwidor, refugees from political persecution in Nigeria, as they adjust to their new lives in Chicago. Our discussion will explore how the struggle to negotiate life in a new culture can impact one's emotional well-being, and the ways that service providers can address and support the mental health needs of New Americans.
