ITVS Classroom is pleased to launch its first program resource with the educator guide for HIP-HOP: Beyond Beats and Rhymes!

Educators can use the educator guide to support viewing of HIP-HOP: Beyond Beats and Rhymes while engaging students in discussions about masculinity, gender violence, homophobia and media literacy. Check back in August 2007 for streaming video modules from the groundbreaking PBS documentary, carefully selected to accompany the activities in the guide. Four streaming video modules, approximately five-to-seven minutes each will be available.
A small number of DVDs with the video modules and curricular materials will be available for educators beginning June 2007 while supplies last. For more information, contact Susan Latton at latton@charter.net

ITVS Classroom is an educational resource providing new documentary video content and accompanying curricular materials, lesson plans and homework assignments to high school and community college instructors and youth-serving, community-based organizations. Classroom will offer three units in its first year. Video content will include approximately 15 minutes excerpted from an independently-produced documentary film scheduled for broadcast on the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens. Content is grouped into subject-specific segments that correspond to lesson plans and educational activities. All materials are designed with key education standards in mind and available, along with the video content, on a DVD-ROM and online.
ITVS Classroom is a product of the Independent Television Service and KQED Education Network, with support from PBS Teachers, the National Council of Churches, American Association of Community Colleges, 4-H, National Council for the Social Studies and National Council of Teachers of English.
