The unique history of listener-sponsored radio drew filmmakers Veronica Selver and Sharon Wood to the subject of KPFA ON THE AIR: "KPFA was founded on a very deep-seated faith in people's possibilities, a faith we wanted to celebrate in the film. One of the things KPFA consistently does that other media doesn't do enough is stimulate people to think. It might make them excited or happy or angry, but it doesn't encourage passivity. It reveals the possibilities for engagement, for communication, for action. And in a democracy, that's an invaluable contribution."

VERONICA SELVER - PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
Veronica Selver has been an award-winning documentary editor for over 20 years, with credits on such highly regarded films as ON COMPANY BUSINESS, the Academy Award-nominated BERKELEY IN THE SIXTIES, HARRY BRIDGES: A MAN AND HIS UNION, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE, COMING OUT UNDER FIRE (ITVS, 1995) and, BLACKS AND JEWS, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997. She also produced and directed an episode of the 1996 ITVS series, POSITIVE: LIFE WITH HIV. Her codirecting credits include YOU GOT TO MOVE, FIRST LOOK and the duPont-Columbia Award-winning WORD IS OUT, the first feature documentary on growing up gay in America.

SHARON WOOD - COPRODUCER/WRITER
Sharon Wood's documentary writing credits include three Oscar nominees: TELL THE TRUTH AND RUN: GEORGE SELDES AND THE AMERICAN PRESS, STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART and SUPER CHIEF: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF EARL WARREN. She was cowriter on THE CELLULOID CLOSET (Emmy, Peabody and duPont-Columbia Award winner) and SKIN DEEP. Wood most recently served as writer on PARAGRAPH 175, a feature documentary for HBO on Nazi persecution of homosexuals, and on "Isamu Noguchi: Stones and Paper," an American Masters episode for PBS. Wood also coproduced and wrote several episodes of Portrait of America for Turner Broadcasting. She independently produced and directed KHETURNI BAYO: NORTH INDIAN FARM WOMEN and OUTSIDE IN SIGHT: THE MUSIC OF UNITED FRONT.
