As a result of the production of the documentary GOLDEN THREADS, a Task Force was formed by SAGE (Senior Action in a Gay Environment) to assess the availability and quality of appropriate and affirming long term care options for lesbian and gay seniors.

The SAGE Task Force is working in several directions:

Incorporating the documentary GOLDEN THREADS as a training tool, the SAGE Task Force is developing a curriculum to educate and sensitize service providers and professionals in nursing homes, adult care and other service settings to provide culturally competent services to lesbian and gay seniors.
In collaboration with Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, the SAGE Task Force is reviewing the current statutory and regulatory licensing environment to see how these either need to be changed or how they can be used to compel institutions to better serve lesbian and gay seniors.
In collaboration with the Village Center for Care Nursing Home in Manhattan, the SAGE Task Force is coordinating a survey of all nursing homes in New York City to determine the degree to which there is recognition of the presence of gay and lesbian seniors in these facilities and to what extent these facilities tailor their services appropriately to meet the needs of these clients.
