WILLIE KOLEHMAINEN

Willie Kolehmainen #134, a Finnish runner, was the press’ favorite to win. Kolehmainen had a number of running credits to his name but was better known as the trainer for his brother Hannes, gold medal winner in the Olympic Marathon in 1920. Kolehmainen’s credits included the mile in 4 minutes, 21 seconds. In 1912 Kolehmainen won the Powderhall Stadium Marathon in 2.36.56.5 and the American professional championship marathon in New Jersey with 2.29.39.2. Kolehmainen dropped out of the Bunion Derby in three days, after the Cajon Pass.
