ARTHUR NEWTON


Arthur Newton #135, a white South African, was favored to be among the finishers since he was the world’s 100-mile champion. Newton dropped out of the race at Winslow, Arizona. He had sprained one ankle and had an inflamed Achilles’ tendon in the other ankle.
