HARRY GUNN

Harry Gunn #65, the son of California millionaire
F. F. Gunn, was a walker. When the elder Gunn learned of Harry’s intentions, he made substantial bets on the odds of Harry reaching New York. In order to insure his bets, Gunn accompanied his son, riding in a Pierce-Arrow roadster. Gunn’s entourage is rumored to have included a bus with a “Louis Quinze” dining room, a four-star chef and a personal trainer, who handed Harry a cold soda pop every thirty minutes. Press reports say Mr. Gunn spent $50,000 for Harry to try for $25,000. Gunn finished 28th in the race.
