A spring snowstorm makes running treacherous but the runners continue despite bad weather that lasts through three checkpoints.

April 9, McLean TX to Texola OK
Runners are put up in a hotel because the caravan carrying tents and cots gets stuck at the Jericho Gap, notorious at the time for its thick, black gumbo mud, which stuck to the wheels of cars making travel treacherous. Arne Souminen drops out of the race with a sprained ankle after a slip on the packed snow and ice.
