Please Vote for Me

Please Vote for Me was featured in ITVS’s landmark Community Cinema program, producing community outreach screenings in 40 cities during September 2007. All screenings were conducted between 10 and 60 days prior to the film’s scheduled national broadcast on Independent Lens. Post-screening discussions focused on the role of educators in fostering civic engagement among youth and the ways democracy differs across the globe. Please Vote for Me screenings welcomed more than 2,000 community members to events across the nation, which included panel discussions with local politicians, educators, students, and community leaders.

The events attracted many educators across the nation who showed great interest in using the film as a tool to promote discussion about what democracy means and how it works. One educator said, “I wish that all Chicago principals and PTA members could view this film!”

ITVS produced companion discussion guides to support the screenings and for use by viewers at home; more than 10,000 were downloaded or distributed. More than 50 community-based and national organizations partnered with ITVS to engage audiences with this film.

Please Vote for Me is featured in the Vote Democracy! Community Classroom collection, offering short film modules and curricular materials that have been distributed to more than 2,000 educators to date, reaching more than 10,000 students and youth.
