DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Thank you for watching the tape JANE: AN ABORTION SERVICE. We hope that you found it as powerful to watch as we did to make. The following are some questions that you may wish to use to guide or stimulate discussion.

- Kate Kirtz and Nell Lundy

  • How many of you had heard about "Jane" before this? If not, are you surprised that you had not? Why do you think this is?

  • How did the "Jane" story make you feel?

  • Did the political climate of liberalization around and acceptance of abortion in the 1960s and 70s surprise you? What has changed about the way that we think about abortion in the 1990s versus the 1970s, and what do you think has influenced these changes?

  • How much do you think "Jane" as a group grew out of the radicalism of the political times? Do you think a group like this could form again? Why or why not?

  • Did you think what the "Jane" women did was morally right? Did you think they thought enough about the morality of what they were doing?

  • What do you think we can take from "Jane" for the 1990s and beyond?
