Fifteen years ago I was out of the country seven months, with my family, working in Taiwan. I missed the 1980 "conventions", voted for John Anderson by absentee ballot and returned to find a "grade B" movie actor as president. I could not understand what happened in the 1980 election until I saw the "With God on Our Side" program and the religious right factor. Thank you for filling in the 1980 blank in my personal experience as a citizen. Bob Cronmiller

In the larger picture, the involvment of the religious right is essentially the story of political involvment in a party and the use of a political voting block by a party for getting its candidate elected. In this sense the Religious right has been used by the Republican party just as much as any other special interest has been used by any other party including the Democratic party. After the election, the party just gets rid of what it no longer needs or desires.

I'm looking forward to the series, but I would have much rather seen an expose into the "religious reicht" (as I call it) and the goals of groups such as Chalcedon, Focus on the Family and the so-called "Christian" Coalition to take over American politics from your local school board and city council to the Congress and the White House in order to enslave America with the iron fist of thocracy by throwing out the Constitution and replacing it with the bible as the law of the land. The reicht has been behind hate crimes against gays and lesbians and has numerous attempts to violate the Constitu- tion by denying these people their Constitutional rights to free speech, and protections under the Fourteenth Amend- ment. To find out how the reicht's propigates its hate and bigotry, see the documentary "Ballot Measure 9" which chronicled the fight in Oregon to make it legal to discriminate against a specific group of Americans. Remember, today they hate gays and lesbians -- tomorrow it may be YOU because you're not what they are!
