In 1990, after serving 19 years in prison, Dhoruba's conviction was overturned and he was released. Utilizing archival news footage, personal accounts and a rich jazz score, PASSIN' IT ON captures the candid testimony of those involved, from Dhoruba's attorney to then-Deputy Police Commissioner, from members of the jury to Dhoruba himself, this is a personal history of one individual's ordeal that speaks to larger issues.
